Update SASSA SRD Banking Details
Official Banking Update Portal
Need to change where your R370 grant is paid? Use the secure Official SASSA Link below to update your account details immediately. Before updating, we recommend performing an Srd Status check to confirm your current verification stage.
Always do a R370 Status Check after 24 hours to ensure your changes have been captured by the SASSA system.
Ensuring your banking information is correctly captured in the SASSA system is the most critical step to receiving your R370 grant. Inaccurate details often lead to payment failures, rejections, or long delays. Before proceeding, we recommend performing a Sassa Status check to see if your current payment method is active.
How To Update Banking Details Online
The update process is exclusively digital and should only be performed through official channels to maintain security.
- Official SRD Website: All updates must be done via srd.sassa.gov.za. Avoid third-party apps that ask for your banking credentials.
- Step-by-Step Update Process:
- Scroll to the section "How do I change my banking details".
- Enter your 13-digit South African ID number.
- Submit the form to trigger the security verification.
- OTP Verification Process: SASSA will send a One-Time Pin (OTP) to the mobile number used during your SRD reapplication. You must enter this code precisely to unlock the banking fields.
- Confirmation Message Explained: Once you submit your new bank name, account number, and branch code, the system will display "Bank details updated successfully." This means the data is captured, but not yet verified.
Banking Details Status Check
After updating, your R370 Status Check will reflect one of the following statuses regarding your finances:
“Bank Details Pending”: SASSA has received your update and is waiting to send your information to the National Treasury for validation.
“Referred”: This indicates the account provided has been flagged for high risk or is already associated with another ID. See our common issues guide for help.
“Verified”: Your bank account matches your ID, and SASSA has confirmed the account is active. This is the final step before payment.
No Payment Date After Update: Even if "Verified," you may not see a date immediately. This happens if the update occurred after the monthly "payroll" was already generated.
Change Bank Account
When switching to a new bank (e.g., from TymeBank to Capitec), follow these strict rules:
- Changing Account Holder Details: You cannot change the name on the account. The account must be in the name of the grant applicant.
- Using Someone Else’s Bank Account: This is strictly prohibited. SASSA uses a facial recognition and ID verification system. If the ID linked to the bank account does not match the applicant's ID, the payment will be rejected.
Change To Cash Send / Postbank
If you do not have a traditional bank account, you can opt for the "Cash Send" or Retail collection method.
- How To Switch Payment Method: When prompted for banking details, select "Cash Send" or "Retailer" (Pick n Pay, Boxer, Shoprite, Checkers, or Usave).
- Retail Store Collection: Once you receive a confirmation SMS with a voucher number, take your original ID and the phone with the registered number to the store.
- Postbank Collection: Note that Postbank collection is now largely limited to the Postbank card system; traditional Post Office over-the-counter payments for SRD have been phased out in most regions.
Common Banking Problems
| Problem | Reason / Solution |
|---|---|
| OTP Not Received | Number not RICA'd or system congestion. Try during off-peak hours. |
| Incorrect Account Number | Update immediately; SASSA does not auto-correct typos. |
| Name Mismatch | Occurs if you use a maiden name or nickname at the bank. |
| Payment Rejected | Usually due to a dormant or closed bank account. |
Verification & Processing
Updating your verification status is not instant.
- How Long Verification Takes: Typically 7 to 14 business days.
- Bank Verification With Treasury: Every month, SASSA sends your ID and bank details to the National Treasury to ensure you are not receiving other income (UIF, NSFAS, or salary).
- Why Updates Delay Payment: If you change details during the last week of the month, your payment may be held until the following month's cycle to prevent double payment.
Security & Fraud Warnings
Grant fraud is a major concern. Always follow these safety protocols:
- Never Share OTP: No SASSA official will ever call you to ask for an OTP.
- Official SASSA Links Only: Only use links ending in .gov.za.
- Scam SMS Alerts: Be cautious of SMS messages claiming your account is "blocked" and asking you to click a link to "unblock" it. Always check your Srd Status check directly on the official site first.
Monthly Update: February 2026
Stay informed with the latest processing news for the current cycle:
- Current Month Banking Verification Delays: Due to a recent system update, bank verifications submitted between the 1st and 5th of February may take an extra 3 days to reflect.
